Amazon Warriors geared up to win CPL T20 title.

─ ExxonMobil sponsors of Amazon Warriors

DPI, Guyana, Friday, August 3, 2018

ExxonMobil is officially sponsoring the Guyana Amazon Warriors at the biggest party in sports, the HERO Caribbean Premier League T20 Cricket tournament. The official announcement was made today at the Marriott Hotel, Kingston.

ExxonMobil’s Country Manager, Rod Henson at the launch said that company is proud to be partnering with the Amazon Warriors. He is also optimistic that this year is going to be a fantastic year for the Warriors.

Henson said the competition “really brings people together from all walks of life, young and old, both within the country here and throughout the Caribbean. And one of the reasons ExxonMobil is happy to partner with the Amazon Warriors is that they have a long-standing, excellent tradition of corporate citizenship.  Over the years, Warriors have done many things in terms of mentoring young men and women, motivational speaking, visiting schools and that is fantastic.”

On the business side of things, former captain of the team Rayad Emrit is optimistic that Guyana will win their first CPL title. The Amazon Warriors have made the playoffs every year but fell short of the trophy in three finals.

“We know it is going to be tough. I think all the teams are very well balanced however we have a very good chance of going all the way” Emrit stated.

While sharing similar sentiments, Head coach, Johan Botha said the training camp which begins today will play a pivotal role in securing home wins.

Botha explained that “there are obviously some Guyanese players but there are a lot of players who do not play here all year round and then you have four or five international players that need to get adjusted to the ground, get used to the conditions in a very short time so it is very important and hopefully we can do that over the next five days and be ready for the first game on the ninth”

The 2018 Amazon Warriors team includes Sohail Tanvir, Shoaib Malik, Chadwick Walton, Cameron Delport, Rayad Emrit, Imran Tahir, Jason Mohammed, Luke Ronchi, Veerasammy Permaul, Roshon Primus, Shimron Hetmyer, Devendra Bishoo, Gajanand Singh, Sherfane Rutherford, Romario Shepherd, Keemo Paul, Saurabh Netravalkar and Akshaya Persaud.

Guyana is set to host seven CPL matches which include five preliminary matches and two playoff games. The tournament kicks off on August 8 and runs through September 16, 2018.
