Govt will address road condition – Min. Ramjattan assures Diamond/Grove students

DPI, Guyana, Tuesday, July 10, 2018

As Grade Six students attached to the New Diamond/Grove Primary School are saying their last goodbyes before entering their respective secondary schools, Minister of Public Security, Khemraj Ramjattan and Business Minister Dominic Gaskin visited the pupils on Monday, to provide words of wisdom.

In brief remarks, Minister Ramjattan noted that the issue with the current condition of the road was highlighted by Headteacher, Wendy Chichester and an evaluation was done. He assured the students and teachers that the administration will have the necessary measures put into place to have the road upgraded.

“We want our students and teachers to be as comfortable as possible because it is in a comfortable environment that we achieve excellence. And, we do want excellence for our country because in a few years, will be one of the richest in the Caribbean if not in South America,” Minister Ramjattan said as he encouraged others to highlight ways in which the administration can improve the delivery of education to the students.

The minister also urged the students to continue to be disciplined in their studies and place emphasis on their reading since “good readers make better leaders.” He added that education is the foundation upon which the students must build their dreams in order to develop themselves and the country, as a whole.

Minister Gaskin congratulated the students and respective teachers for their performance at the 2018 National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA). “I congratulate you for sitting your exams and passing those exams and encourage you to strive for excellence in the next phase of your education.”

Alena Trotman, daughter of Minister of Natural Resources Raphael Trotman, Alison Mohamed, Coordinator, Alliance for Change (AFC) and Chairman of the AFC Region Four Management Committee, Michael Leonard were also in attendance where they also presented gifts to the Grade Six pupils. Each graduating student received a scientific calculator and geometry set to be used in their respective secondary schools.

In 2012, the administration deemed it necessary to establish the New Diamond/Grove Primary School due to the growing populace of nursery aged students in the new housing scheme. Today the school can accommodate 1000 students.
