Guyana Water Incorporated’s (GWI) Eccles well will soon be providing a 24-hour water supply after extensive rehabilitation work.

This was announced at the company’s mid-year press conference where Dr. Richard Van West-Charles and other executives highlighted various achievements related to its 141 pump stations and over 400 wells across the country.

GWI has been taking the approach of refurbishing numerous wells by drilling and cleaning and disinfecting their storage tanks. Director of Operations, Dwayne Shako said “as it relates to the well in Eccles it was re-lined and expanded. The plant is only distributing water up to 12hours currently but will soon be able to distribute water 24 hours due to the new storage tank that is constructed. The old well stopped functioning because at that time the company was using carbon casings which began to get wet and started to decay, causing it to have holes.”

GWI staff will be heading to Holland in September to expand their knowledge in an effort to effectively operate the new equipment that will be used to more efficiently maintain the wells.
