Winners of the recently concluded Guyana Football Federation (GFF) – Bartica Football Federation (BFA) Independence Cup Football tournament, last weekend received their prize money.
The tournament, which concluded on June 27, 2018, saw Mil Ballers FC taking the crown while Lazio FC and River View FC finished second and third respectively. President of GFF Wayne Forde presented the prize money which amounted to $225,000 to the representatives of the clubs. Mil Ballers FC received $100,000, Lazio FC $75,000 while River View FC received $50,000.

According to a GFF release, Forde stated his satisfaction with the efforts made by the Bartica Football Federation to rebuild the sport in the community. He also commended the residents for coming out and lending their support to the footballers and the tournament.
“I am very happy with the efforts made by Bartica to reignite the passion for the game and equally encouraged by the support of the fans. This is one simple step in rebuilding Bartica’s reputation for producing excellent National footballers.”
The tournament was sponsored by the GFF, organised by the Bartica Football Association (BFA). Eight teams participated in tournament competing in two groups in a round-robin knockout format. Group A consisted of Beacons, Mil Ballers, Wolves United and Strikers while Group B was made up of Lazio, Potaro Strikers, Rising Stars and Rivers View.
