Quality Education a top priority for Govt – Min. Harmon
– congratulates Region Three’s top NGSA performers

Minister of State, Joseph Harmon today reassured residents of Region Three that quality education is among the provisions Guyanese can expect from the Coalition government.
The minister was at the time addressing the gathering at a ceremony to honour the top ten National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) performers in Region Three, Essequibo Islands-West Demerara, at Region’s Education Department.
Minister Harmon told the gathering that this conviction is evident in the resources which have been allocated to the Education Sector and the developments in Information Communication Technology (ICT); since the Coalition government’s assumption to office in 2015.

“The efforts have been made to improve our education system through the use of technology such as smart classrooms, that is available to some of the schools in Region Three through National Centre for Education Resource Development (NCERD), as well as technical programmes such as the success maker,” Minister Harmon said.
According to the minister, to date, 12 Secondary schools and 27 Primary schools in Region Three have benefitted from internet service and 22 ICT hubs have been installed in several communities.
“These interventions into our education sector and our community connectivity programme are a testimony to the government’s push to ensure that the skills we need in our development programmes are nurtured, developed, and embedded in all levels of the education sector.”
Minister Harmon urged the students to endeavour to maintain their top-level performance in all their academic pursuits. All ten earned placement at Queens College.

In 2018, the government pledged to improve the quality of education through improved infrastructure, adding to the pool of trained teachers, transforming the system of education delivery via technology among other things.
In this regard, $41.9Billion was allocated in the 2018 budget to realise this commitment.
