“Love your profession, and you will give the best to those that you serve.”

Minister of Public Health, Volda Lawrence made this simple appeal to Region Five nurses during a celebration dinner on May 10, at the Mahaicony Technical Institute.

The event was held in observance of International Nurses week 2018.

Minister of Public Health, Volda Lawrence, speaking at Region Five’s observance of Nurses Week.

“You are a nurse and that is the profession you chose… throughout the entire world it is known as the noble profession; so, I want to encourage you to embrace it and be proud of your profession and do not be a shadow in any one of the facilities that you are placed,” Minister Lawrence said.

As an example, she spoke of her background in accounting and her love for that profession.

“Just as I am proud to be an accountant, I want you to be proud of being a nurse.”

Noting that nurses are a part of the worldwide transformation in health care, the Public Health Minister urged those in attendance to contribute to the health sector in an effort to help it achieve its full potential.

Additionally, she noted, just as nurses tend to develop relationships with patients, it is ideal that they develop relationships with each other. This enables them to better achieve their tasks.

“I am depending on you to help each other so that we can have that high standard, that professionalism, that collectivity within the various health facilities. Don’t only do it by yourselves but do it together.”

International Nurses Week concludes on May 12.
