Sheet Anchor WTP on Schedule for Sept 2019 Completion

Georgetown, Guyana – September 15, 2018: Construction works on the Sheet Anchor Water Treatment Plant are on schedule for the proposed completion date of September, 2019.

The major facilities to be constructed include two aerators, a sedimentation tank, four filters, two ground storage tanks, a pump/chemical room and an administrative building.

To date, the piles required for structures such as the aerators, sedimentation tank, filters and the ground storage tanks have been completed, as well as the concrete base slab for the sedimentation tank and the filters.  The first set of walls for a sedimentation tank has also been constructed.

Fences around the existing well and the entire site are also in place, while works on the pump/chemical room and the administrative building have commenced.

This translates to 27 percent of overall works being completed to date.

Approximately 15,000 customers from some 24 communities in Berbice, Region 6 will benefit from improved water quality, upon completion of the Sheet Anchor water treatment plant.

This is just one of three water treatment plants GWI is constructing, with the other two located at Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara and at Diamond, East Bank Demerara at a total cost of US$31Million.

The Sheet Anchor Plant is being constructed at a cost of US$6 Million.
