The Department of Youth is partnering with the Guyana Police Force and the Zara Group of Companies to provide free recognised computer literacy training for over thirty vulnerable persons.

Organiser, Marcia Belle told the Department of Public Information (DPI) that the participants will benefit greatly from the programme.

“I find the programme very interesting for the young people because going to other computer centres is costly and most parents cannot afford to pay for their children to do so. I’m so happy that we introduced it to ZARA and they welcomed us here,” Belle said.

The officer responsible for the ZARA training centres, Superintendent Shivpersaud Bacchus, said that the police force is proud to be facilitating the training exercise that will provide recognised certification.

“With the today’s technology, the children who are utilising this training here will be able to obtain jobs later with the certification. So, yes, it’s a training with a difference,” Bacchus noted.

The course which runs for two to three months caters for non-working students, single mothers, teen mothers, and other young adults.

With the launch of IT training programmes six years ago, the Zara Group of Companies has instructed over 10,000 young people. The company was established some 35 years ago, by a Guyanese family mainly involved in real estate. Today, the company has collaborated with several agencies including the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG) and the Guyana Police Force, to provide training programmes countrywide.

GPF/ZARA training centres are located in all three counties.
