$103M in upgrades for Cane Grove road
─ 1,080 metres will be constructed during Phase 1
DPI, Guyana, Monday, July 8, 2019
The Coalition Government has been working aggressively over the past four years to rebuild Guyana’s deteriorated infrastructure. Residents of Cane Grove will be the latest beneficiaries to one the largest road projects to come on stream.
A staggering $103M contract is set to commence rehabilitative works on the Cane Grove Main Road in Mahaica. The agricultural community on the East Coast of Demerara will see approximately 1,080 metres of deteriorating road rehabilitated during Phase 1 of the project.
Speaking about the engagement with community dwellers in a Facebook post, recently reassigned Minister Jaipaul Sharma, who now holds the portfolio of Minister within the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, proudly stated:
“I reminded the residents that this represents the single largest contract ever awarded for the Cane Grove area and the residents were in high praise.”
Minister Sharma visited the Cane Grove community, on Sunday, as part of the government’s initiative to meet residents in their communities to have constructive dialogue on the issues and needs within these communities. Other villages along the East Coast of Demerara, visited by Ministers of Government, include Vryheids Lust, Friendship, Victoria, Mahaica, Cove and John, and Melanie Damishana.
The transformative asphalt-road project is part of the $38.5Billion budgetary allocation approved for 2019, under the Ministry of Public Infrastructure.
