12 Cases handled by Special Prosecutors since appointment

Five Special Prosecutors have been retained by the Government of Guyana to handle high profile cases.

This was today clarified in the National Assembly through a written response presented by Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Basil Williams, SC.

According to the statement, the prosecutors are being paid $2Million each.

It specifies that the fee is being applied against the Attorney’s fees and cost incurred by the client or expenses paid by the Attorney on behalf of the client.

A further amount of $20,000 per hour is paid for legal services rendered in prosecuting matters in Court.

The agreement was signed on June 7, 2017, and thus far, 12 cases have been handled by the Special Prosecutors.

No travel or accommodation charges were incurred.

The Attorney General was responding to questions raised by Opposition Member of Parliament and former AG Anil Nandlall.
