DPI, Guyana, Tuesday, June 18, 2019

Breathing a sigh of relief is Ayana Khan-Hamid, a single mother of one, who received a house lot. The visibly overjoyed woman received the good news at the ‘Government comes to you’ outreach held in Bartica today.

This comes after a 13-year wait following her application in 2006.

Khan-Hamid was the first to be allocated a plot of land, of the hundreds that flocked the Central Housing and Planning Authority booth.

“I am very happy. I applied for a land in 2006 and I was given a run around. Now I am here and I got through, I am grateful and I want to thank the President, the cabinet and everybody for this,” Kham-Hamid stated.

Describing the news as a “big relief”, the mother of one is happy that very soon she will not be burdened with paying rent.

The outreaches are part of the government’s mandate of providing the good life for all Guyanese.

Recently appointed Minister within the Ministry of Communities with responsibility for Housing Annette Ferguson, immediately following her appointment, stated her intention to address the backlog of housing applications. The Minister also made clear that priority will be given to those persons who applied from the 1990s onwards.
