19 new COVID-19 cases recorded – total now 389

143 tests conducted in last 24hrs

The number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus continues to climb; moving to 389 as of July 27, 2020.

The Ministry of Public Health has reported that 19 more persons have tested positive for the virus after 143 tests were conducted within the last 24 hours.

Of this total 181 persons have recovered while 20 have succumbed to the virus.

Currently, there are 188 active cases in institutional isolation at various facilities across Guyana; 34 persons in institutional quarantine and four patients housed in the COVID-19 ICU.

To date, 4,416 persons have been tested for the virus with 4,027 yielding negative results.

Globally, the WHO is reporting that as of July 27, positive cases stand at 16,114,449 with 646,641 deaths. While in the Regions of the Americas, positive cases now stand at 8,610,134 with a total of 337,439 deaths.

Citizens are reminded to continue practising social distancing in the workplace, public spaces, and while using public transportation to reduce the spread of the coronavirus disease. They are also reminded to practise frequent hand washing/sanitising and always wear a face mask if they have to go out.
