$25,000 one-off cash grant distribution rolls out in Region Ten

Pensioners of Region Ten will be able to sustain themselves for an additional month following the roll- out of the government’s $25,000 one off cash grant focused on rendering financial support amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

The initiative was spearheaded by Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr. Vindhya Persaud on Monday.

Scores of pensioners awaited their grants at various distribution centres in the mining town of Linden. When invited to give a comment on the campaign, many said the grant will assist them greatly.

“I love the fact that they are giving us this cash grant. Oh yes, it will assist me somehow because I will buy my food stuff with that, I get the opportunity to buy my milk and things older folks need,” said Claudia Christopher.

Wellington Benjamin, a senior citizen suffering from knee injuries, said the grant will help him to buy medication.

“I welcome this initiative it will assist me greatly because I got a lot of drugs to buy.”

Audrey Gamble, lauded the government for the effort it is making to support its citizens.

“I am very grateful and I know a lot of people, they are grateful for the initiative to receive $25,000 because you don’t walk and pick that money up on the road and it can do a lot, if you know how to use it. I at least, I am thankful…. I am very, very thankful to the government for this initiative.”

Distribution centres in the region include Amelia’s Ward, Coomacka, Watooka, Wismar, Bayrock and Mackenzie. The cash grant along with the 2022 booklets, will be distributed until October 22.

The $25,000 Senior Citizen one-off cash grant voucher

Pensioners are urged to encash their old age pensions and one-off grant vouchers no later than November 31. All vouchers can be cashed at any money transfer agency.

The $25,000 grant will benefit 65,000 pensioners and place an additional $1.6Billion of disposable income in the hands of the senior citizens.
