29 new COVID-19 cases recorded

—Total now stands at 538

The number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to climb with the total now standing at 530 persons testing positive for the virus.

This amount is inclusive of 189 recoveries and 22 deaths.

Currently, there are 327 active cases in institutional isolation at various facilities across Guyana; 38 persons in institutional quarantine and two patients housed in the COVID-19 ICU.

In total 5,165 persons have been tested for the virus with 4,627 yielding negative results.

Globally, the WHO is reporting that as of August 6, positive cases stand at 18,614,177 with 702,642 deaths. While in the Regions of the Americas, positive cases now stand at 9,981,204 with a total of 372,008 deaths.

Citizens are reminded to continue practising social distancing in the workplace, public spaces, and while using public transportation to reduce the spread of the coronavirus disease. They are also reminded to practise frequent hand washing/sanitising and always wear a face mask if they must go out.
