3 Houses destroyed by freak storm in Lima Essequibo, – community being monitored

Three houses in Lima, Essequibo, were affected by heavy winds that started around 10:00hrs this morning, according to reports from Regional Chairman (RC), Devanand Ramdatt.

The houses in Lima, Essequibo, Region 2 damaged by the freak storm.

Ramdatt explained that himself and a team visited the affected residents and conducted an assessment of the damage. The RC said the families require meals and dietary supplies and have requested support in the form of building materials -lumber and zinc sheets.

The roofs for two homes were completely destroyed while another was partially damaged. Narainee Naraine of Lot 18 Lima Housing Scheme, Sultan Rasool of Lot 19 Lima Housing Scheme and Hassan Ali of Lima Public Road were the unfortunate homeowners.

Ramdatt said the region has been experiencing extreme weather over the last 12 hours, and the situation is being monitored. There is some amount of flooding in Charity, and there are high water levels in the drainage system, particularly northern part of the region.

Pumps, sluices and kokers are update-to-date but also being monitored closely.

The Director-General (acting) of the Civil Defense Commission (CDC) Kester Craig said they will be in constant contact with the Regional officials to monitor the situation.
