3 new COVID-19 cases recorded

– 5 patients in COVID-19 ICU as 2 more admitted

DPI, Guyana, Saturday, May 9, 2020

The Ministry of Public Health has recorded three new COVID-19 cases taking the total to 97 as of May 9, 2020.

Of these 97 cases, Guyana has recorded 10 deaths and 35 recoveries.

So far, 825 persons have been tested with 755 of those tested returning negative.

Two more patients were admitted to the COVID-19 ICU at GPHC taking the total to five.

Three persons are now in institutional quarantine while 52 others remain in isolation at various facilities across Guyana.

Region Four remains the epicentre of the COVID-19 pandemic in Guyana. The Public health Ministry has recorded confirmed cases in the following areas:

North Georgetown

  • Cummings Lodge
  • Alberttown

South Georgetown

  • Bourda
  • Lamaha Park
  • South Ruimveldt
  • Thirst Park

East Coast of Demerara

  • Atlantic Gardens

  • Golden Grove
  • Good Hope
  • Lusignan
  • Plaisance
  • Strathspey

East Bank of Demerara

  • Diamond
  • Grove
  • Land of Canaan
  • Providence

Globally, there are 3,759,967 confirmed cases with 259,474 deaths. In the Region of the Americas the number of confirmed cases has increased to 1,636,841 with 91,893 deaths.

The Ministry of Public Health is again calling on all citizens to heed the health advisories and observe the correct hygiene measures and precautions. Citizens are also asked to always   practice social   distancing in   the   workplace, public spaces, and while using public transportation so as reduce the spread of the coronavirus diseases.
