DPI, Guyana, Thursday, February 21, 2019

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Teleperformance Guyana, Luis Barreto revealed that the company was currently preparing to provide over 3,000 jobs for Guyanese over the next few years.

This was revealed during a visit to the company’s Camp Street Head office by Minister of Finance, Winston Jordan.

The CEO disclosed that the company is currently in the process of expanding its operations. In this regard, he gave a brief discourse into why Guyana is ideal for the company and the position they see Guyana playing in the years to come as it relates to the country being an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) hub for the Caribbean.

“What we’ve found in Guyana is the neutral accent is very easy on the North American ears, so it makes it very easy to communicate.”

He also added that with the newly constructed terminals at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), the country has become more accessible, allowing for major clients to come into the country, thereby opening the window of opportunities to invest into Guyana as a whole.

“You guys have a beautiful newly redesigned international terminal, which has really facilitated our ability to grant VIP access to our VIP clients to show them that Guyana does have that modern approach to international travel as well as to international executives.”

The company, while it has a permanent staff complement, currently retains its larger workforce on a seasonal basis, but the CEO has expressed that he intends to move to a model where they have year-round permanent employment for all employees.

The new facility is expected to hold approximately 1,600 work stations, each station allowing for two workers, creating roughly 3,200 new jobs, not just at an entry level, but at the supervisory and management level as well.

“Our goal is to get to 2,000 by this year, and probably 3,000 jobs by next year, that’s why we’re already out here looking for another building and already expanding this building.”

Minister Jordan noted the impressive growth of the company reflects the growing confidence in the country’s economy.

“The number of employees hired is quite impressive; only the agricultural sector will rival these numbers.”

The minister said he was heartened with the company’s decision to create plans for permanency of its employees.
