5 patients now in COVID-19 ICU, 48 confirmed cases

44 cases were local transmissions

The total number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Guyana has increased to 48 as of April 14, 2020.

Of these 48 cases, 34 are active with the country having recorded 6 deaths and 8 medically cleared recoveries.

This was disclosed by Public Health Minister Hon. Volda Lawrence in her update to the nation today.

As of April 14, 2020, a total of 224 persons have been tested with 176 of those tested returning negative.

There are currently 21 persons housed in the ministry’s quarantined facilities and another 34 are in isolation.

Five patients are in the COVID-19 Intensive care unit.

Of all the persons tested thus far, 60 percent are men and 40 percent women.

Citizens are asked to always   practice social   distancing in   the   workplace, public spaces, and while using public transportation so as reduce the spread of the coronavirus diseases.
