A govt for all

DPI, Guyana, Sunday, April 28, 2019

Hundreds of Region 3 residents and stakeholders were welcomed to the 6th government outreach at the National Track and Field Centre, earlier today by former Minister of State, Joseph Harmon. In brief remarks, he said the exercise was in keeping with Article 113 of the Constitution. The former minister also explained that the activity speaks to inclusionary governance and ā€œmakes it mandatory that the type of government we practice is an inclusionary one. One which makes people feel that they are included in the decision making in our country.ā€

Minister Harmon described the exercise as ā€œan important oneā€ since judging from previously held outreaches, it was evident that there was a need to conduct a similar session in Region 3, and those ā€œcomplaints have not fallen on deaf ears.ā€

The former State Minister, one of the architects of the outreaches, added that it was not just about bringing the government to the people but also about listening to ā€œresidentsā€™ suggestions on how the government could better serve them.ā€

Minister Harmon, to loud applause, also invited the few protesters on the roadway, ā€œwho seemed to have serious problems to find issues to complain aboutā€, to come into the outreach and benefit from the services offered. The former minister, himself a native of the region, then declared the outreach open.

Todayā€™s government outreach follows five similarly successful exercises conducted across the country. The most recent being at Fort Wellington in Region 5 on April 25.
