ACB no more, Monitoring Committee in place

Georgetown, GINA, December 3, 2013

Chairperson of the Board of the Guyana National Broadcast Authority (GNBA)  Bibi Shaddick today announced the names of those comprising the Monitoring Committee of the GNBA.

They are Chairman: Retired Major General Norman McLean, Dr. Paloma Mohamed, Head of the Learning Channel Dr. Seeta Shah Roath and Attorneys-at-Law Sase Gunraj and Fazil Azeez.

The Committee will work with the Board to implement the regulations broadcast entities are required to follow. The Committee will also be responsible for formulating regulations which will then be sent to the Minister of Information, President Donald Ramotar before being gazetted.

The staff of the Advisory Committee on Broadcasting (ACB) which has been disbanded is now working on the Monitoring Committee, executing physical monitoring and is being paid by the GNBA.

Ms. Shaddick also explained that the GNBA continues to recruit staff members to run the body.
