Agri Minister delivers uniform vouchers to schools in Region Six

Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Zulfikar Mustapha on Saturday handed over Government’s $4,000 uniform and school supplies voucher to students across East Berbice – Corentyne (Region Six).

The Minister distributed vouchers to the parents of students attending the Port Mourant, Tain and Auchlyne Primary Schools. Secondary schools which benefited included the J.C Chanishingh, Port Mourant and the Corentyne Comprehensive High School.

Minister Mustapha said the PPP/C Government is prepared to ensure that Guyanese children receive an education that is second to none.

He noted that the largest allocation in the 2020 emergency budget went to education demonstrating that the Dr. Ali-led Administration is keen on providing adequate schooling for its people.

He noted that more investments will be made to ease financial burdens from both parents and students.

Minister of Education, Hon. Priya Manickchand and Minister of Labour, Hon. Joseph Hamilton were in other parts of the Region on Saturday facilitating the exercise. 

Close to 30,000 students in the Region are expected to benefit from the initiative, and when the exercise concludes, some $90 million will be expended there.

Countrywide, $600 million in uniform and school supplies voucher is set aside for the nation’s children. Hinterland students will benefit from cash vouchers.
