According to the Minister, the stations are being designed to be victim-friendly and to address crimes and violence against women. They will also be being fashioned to include materials, equipment, and rooms that are convenient to reports and complaints against perpetrators.

Also, very importantly the Public Security Minister said the “these stations will be outfitted to accommodate women police officers.”

In the meanwhile, the government’s plan to contract civilians to perform police functions that do not require police training, specifically for the immigration department is still in the works.

Minister Ramjattan, said recommendations from the 2004 report of the Disciplined Forces Commission, for such an initiative, are still being discussed. He noted that discussions have not gone far in this area, but that it was still on the cards.

For this initiative to be considered, the government would have to table the Immigration (Amendment) Bill in order to delink the immigration department from the Guyana Police Force.
