Anna Regina, Charity residents benefit from spectacles and hampers
Committed to ensuring the needs of Guyanese across the country are met, Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr. Vindhya Persaud returned to the Pomeroon-Supenaam (Region Two) to fulfil her promises.
On Wednesday, Minister Persaud distributed 150 spectacles to residents in Anna Regina and Charity. The distribution followed an outreach previously conducted where eye examinations were conducted on residents.
“The Ministry of Human Services would have been doing community outreaches across the country and Region Two was one such region that we came to initially to do our outreach, which involves information public awareness of all our programmes and troubleshooting on areas like pension and public assistance. So, at that initial visit, we did free eyecare in terms of testing so here I was back to deliver the spectacles.”
The Human Services Minister said similar outreaches are being conducted in every region across the country, with Region Five being the next stop in September.
“So, we have started from Region One and we have pretty much covered all the regions with this exercise, similar format of eyecare, as well as public assistance, pension…the officers come to deal with child care issues, domestic violence issues with difficult circumstances unit, we also focus on persons living with disabilities.”
During the visit, Dr. Persaud also distributed hampers to elderly persons. Within the last week, she visited Regions Seven and Ten to conduct similar exercises.
