Another COVID-19 death recorded

– 2 new cases confirmed

– Citizens urged to observe preventative measures

Two more COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Guyana taking the number of positive cases to a total of 137.

With eight cases reported over the weekend citizens are being urged to not return to their old habits, but instead to ramp up hand-washing and physical distancing measures.

Unfortunately, one more patient has died from the Novel Coronavirus which means the country has now recorded 11 COVID-19-related deaths.

A total of 62 recoveries have been recorded.

Thirty-two more persons have been tested within the last 24 hours. 1,489 total tests have been conducted yielding 1,382 negative results.

Of these 137, there are 64 active cases in isolation at various facilities across Guyana while 2 patients remain in the COVID-19 ICU at the GPHC. Two persons are also housed in institutional quarantine.

“Our efforts in limiting the spread of this disease are dependent on this community coming fully on board with the regional health authorities as well as all other entities who have joined in fighting this disease,” Minister of Public Health Volda Lawrence noted in the daily update.

Globally, there are a total of 5,204,508 cases with 337, 687 deaths while in the Region of the Americas the total number of cases is 2, 338,124 with 138, 116 deaths.

Guyanese are asked to take every precaution necessary, particularly in Hinterland Regions, border communities and hotspots.

Everyone is asked to always practice social distancing in the workplace, public spaces, and while using public transportation to reduce the spread of the coronavirus diseases.
