ANOTHER WORKPLACE FATAL ACCIDENT IN THE MINING SECTOR

Reports reaching the Ministry of Labour indicated that there has been another fatality in the Mining Sector. Mr.  Marques Cornelius of Singh’s Mining Operations was fatally injured on the job when he was struck by a falling tree.

This accident occurred at Big Hope, Waini in Region #1 on Monday, September 14, 2020.

The Ministry of Labour is once again collaborating with the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) in conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances of this accident.

In this regard, arrangements are being made to visit the accident site. It is expected that a report will be prepared which will include recommendations and prevent future recurrence.

The Minister of Labour is deeply concerned about the recent fatalities and offers condolences to the family of the deceased.
