APNU+AFC claims Region Eight

–Regions sees 62 percent turn out

The A Partnership for National Unity and Alliance for Change coalition have claimed the Potaro-Sipuruni region at the 2020 General and Regional Elections. The declaration was made by the region’s returning officer Dwayne Marco this evening.

Marco said that the region has 7431 total electors. The total amount of valid votes for the region was 4,626, representing a 62 percent voters’ turnout. Of that amount, 2,086 electors cast their vote for the APNU+AFC. Following behind is the People’s Progressive Party with 2,041, the Liberty and Justice Party with 460 and United Republican Party received just 39.

At the 2015 elections, the region was won by the PPP who got 1837 votes to 1791 votes for the APNU/AFC.

In the preliminary announcement which was made earlier by the Guyana Elections Commission, the A Partnership for National Unity+Alliance for Change (APNU+AFC) coalition had 22,367 votes in several regions from a total of 39, 049. That figure was derived from votes from 187 polling stations across the country.
