Appointment of His Excellency Mr. Jukka Pietikäinen, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Finland to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana

His Excellency Mr. Jukka Pietikäinen, today presented his letters of Credence to His Excellency President David Granger of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana as nonresident Ambassador Extraordinary and of the Republic of Finland to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.

Prior to his accreditation, Ambassador Pietikäinen met with Vice President and Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Carl Greenidge. They discussed, among other issues, areas for possible cooperation between Guyana and Finland, particularly in the area of renewable energy, as well as Finland’s candidature to the UNESCO Executive Board for the period 2017 to 2021.

H.E. Mr. Jukka Pietikäinen holds a Master in Social Sciences from the University of Jyväskylä in Finland. He has worked with Finland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including in overseas Missions in New York, Uruguay, Paraguay, Mexico, Madrid, Columbia, Bern and Bogotå. He is fluent in Finish (his mother tongue), Swedish, English, Spanish, French and German.

The appointment of H.E. Ambassador Mr. Jukka Pietikäinen will further strengthen the existing relations between Guyana and Finland and pro\ide an impetus to explore new areas for collaboration.

Guyana and Finland established diplomatic relations on April 2, 1979. Relations between the two countries are cordial.
