Bartica Hospital NICU continues to bring relief to residents – CT-scan building near completion

Over the past six months, the two-bed Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) stationed at Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) Bartica Regional Hospital has been receiving excellent reviews.
Regional Health Officer (RHO), Dr. Edward Sagala told the Department of Public Information (DPI) that in the brief period of time that the unit has been commissioned, it has already boosted the services offered.
According to the RHO, nurses recently trained in the areas of neonatal care and pediatrics have recently returned to the medical facility. This, he said, will continue to reduce referrals to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) and neonatal mortalities.
Additionally, Dr. Sagala said that the hospital’s operation theatre is also functioning well. He noted that there have been a few challenges but the hospital has been able overcome these adversities.
The RHO also revealed that the construction of a Computed Tomography machine (CT scan) building is nearing completion. Dr. Sagala said the multi-million-dollar facility will be commissioned in June.
This addition will help to bring financial relief to those who seek such services, since they were often referred to Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
Dr. Sagala thanked the healthcare professionals for assisting in the region’s effort to provide increased healthcare services to residents.
