Minister of Communities, Ronald Bulkan urged maturity on the part of Guyanese to “prevent erosion of the gains made, since Independence.” The Communities Minister was addressing Barticians on the eve of the country’s 49th Republic Anniversary.

Addressing the residents gathered at the Golden Beach Boulevard, the Minister advised Barticians to “resist the attempts by those who do not have the best interest of the nation by heart.” He noted that these persons are driven by a lust for power and are prepared to “see our nation flounder in their attempts to regain control.”

He recalled that these persons squandered the opportunity to reform the country, whilst in office and have now returned with “fanciful notions” and with “sudden care and concern for the ordinary man, who they trampled upon during their infamous reign.”

On the other hand, he noted that the three years of the Coalition Government has seen the promotion of a policy of inclusivity, where all Guyanese can live a good life.

Outlining the gains made in the three years, he urged the residents to thwart attempts to derail the country’s gains including a political opposition hellbent on stymieing development by seeking to overthrow a duly elected government

The Minister noted that “We are Guyanese, a resilient people, who overcame many adversities on the path to where we are …let us maintain hope that our nation will again triumph, as this year’s Mashramani theme suggests.”

Guyanese always work together as one nation to achieve a common destiny… where citizens are valued for their intrinsic worth, irrespective of the ethnicity, social status and other irrelevant considerations,” he added

In his remarks, Mayor of Bartica, Gifford Marshall said the efforts of Central Government has injected more than $1.4 Billion in several projects, including the construction of the Transport and Harbor Stelling and the relocation of the Bartica Power Company. Marshall said the projects will positively enhance the landscape of the town, significantly boost tourism, provide employment and improve commercial and education sector.

“In the township of Bartica, your municipality will embark on a number of projects, including the installation of street lights … in the next three months we will install more than 800 streetlights throughout Bartica,” Marshall said.

Among the other developments, he outlined for the town is the design and construction of a New Town Hall by April, aimed to provide effective management of the Municipality, Marshall said the design and layout will be implemented by April.

Barticians on Friday night observed Guyana’s 49th Republic Anniversary in grand style starting with a spectacular parade from Members of the Joint Services and a combined group consisting of persons from the various public service ministries and school children.

Everyone gathered at the Golden Beachside Boulevard where they were given the opportunity to see Bartica’s rich and cultural diversity through dance, poem, calypso, folk songs, skits, and were also graced with the presence of 2019 reigning Calypso Monarch, “the Mighty Believer.”

Approaching midnight, the gathering stood at attention as the Golden Arrow Head was hoisted to officially usher in Guyana’s 49th year as a Republic.
