Board of Industrial Training partners with Roadside Baptist
Georgetown, Guyana – (September 29, 2016) The Board of Industrial Training is offering youths of Berbice yet another avenue through which they can learn a technical or vocational skill. The Board is partnering with the Roadside Baptist Skills Training Center in Region Six to train persons for employment, entrepreneurship, and further studies. Among the training programmes are offered are training in electrical installation, garment construction, tailoring, food and nutrition/catering, cake decoration, cosmetology, block making and plumbing.
Minister of Social Protection, Volda Lawrence on Tuesday took a first-hand look at the No. 68 Village operations and urged the students in training to maximize on the opportunity. “So much is ahead of you so grab the opportunity and take command of what you are learning…whatever you want to become you can be just set your mind and apply yourself.”
The Board of Industrial Training sponsored several programmes through the NGO in 2015 and 2016 and according to Yetrawatee Katryan the Chief Executive Officer, young people find jobs easily after the training. “Women who did sewing programmes started their own business after and now we have new programmes incorporated, such as PC repairs, which will be very useful.”
Roadside Baptist, established in the 1990s also offer the youths the additional opportunity to sit examinations for the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC), computer studies, remedial education and literacy.
