Budget to focus on human aspect of development

– Min. Jordan presents Coalition Government’s fifth National Budget

– substantial resources allocated for health, education, water and sanitation

Minister of Finance, Winston Jordan is currently presenting the 2019 National Budget in the National Assembly under the theme, “Transforming Our Economy, Empowering Our People, Building Sustainable Communities for the Good Life.”

This is the Coalition Government’s fifth budget since its assumption to office in 2015. Minister Jordan says the 2019 Budget focuses on the human aspect of development with resources allocated for the improvement of several sectors, including health and education, as well as water and sanitation.

In the 2018 Budget, the Public Health sector had received an allocation of $33.3Billion, Education – $41.9Billion and water – $3.2Billion.

He noted, this budget prioritises institutional strengthening across sectors including public investment management and support of the Administration’s green economy initiatives.  

Increases in the Old Age pension and public servants’ wages and salaries are also promised.

The 2018 budget was $267.1Billion and it is anticipated that this budget will be the largest by the Coalition Government.
