Director and Principal Consultant of inCrEdible Safety Services Limited Edward Brathwaite.

He noted that the oil and gas industry is a ‘cross cultural workplace’ and developing the right safety culture is important to mitigate risks and hazards. “What I’m trying to suggest that it’s worth your while as a society to try and figure out what you believe in relation to the oil and gas industry, and in particular, safety in the oil and gas industry. You’ve got to take the time to figure that out now, so that you can build a safety culture that meets your society where it is,” Brathwaite said.

Brathwaite also explained that attention has to be given to communication, when building a culture of safety. “It allows you the opportunity to having identified potential weaknesses put in programmes or strategies to try and bolster those, so that they don’t manifest themselves in a negative way,” he explained.

Safety is good business and it is simple to achieve Brathwaite stated. “To get safety right our belief is that you focus on four things. Those are hazard identification and risk assessment, incident investigation, behaviour based safety and action tracking,” he pointed out.

GOGA has undertaken to provide public information to the general public with the aim of creating an understanding of developments in the oil and gas industry.
