Business as usual after March 21

─ Min. Greenidge, tells Guyanese not to be intimidated, bullied and tricked into acting unlawfully

DPI, Guyana, Thursday, March 21, 2019

Citizens are being advised to go about their business as normal after March 21 and “do what you normally do”.

This advice came from Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carl Greenidge, who is currently performing the duties of president. The statement was made during a community meeting on the evening of March 20, in Constituency #3 East and West Campbellville.

Minister Greenidge told the residents citizens to continue as per normal from March 21 and the days following and not to be fooled by anyone.

“If you find that in your place of Work or anywhere else people come and try to encourage you not to work… Let me just remind you if you are a government employee, you have a contract and your contract does not say that you will stop working because the opposition deems there to be a constitutional crisis.”

He told persons that they have contracts and the terms of those contract would have to be maintained.

He emphasised that person avoid being “carried down the Garden path by people who do not have your best interest at heart”.

Minister Greenidge condemned the opposition PPP for trying to persuade people to disrupt the country.

“They are into nonsense” he stated.

The minister took time to explain the current political situation in the country and Government’s case resulting from the December 21 vote in the National Assembly, currently before the Court of Appeal. (https://dpi.gov.gy/govt-wraps-up-presentation-in-court-of-appeal/)

One resident Audrey McCalmont expressed appreciation to the minister for clarifying the matter in detail. According to McCalmont, “it gave me nightmares wondering what’s gonna happen … I never went through this, so I want to know what the next move is.”

Minister Greenidge urged citizens to await the outcome of the court matter.

The minister who was later joined by Minister within the Ministry of Social Protection, Keith Scott were part of a larger Ministerial Outreach spanning the fifteen constituencies of Georgetown.
