Cabinet Approves Appointment of Dutch Ambassador (Designate)

Ministry of Foreign Affairs, May 10, 2018 – Cabinet has approved the appointment of His Excellency Mr. Jacob Rijkert Theodoor Frederiks as Non-Resident Ambassador (Designate) of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.

H.E. Ambassador (Designate) Frederiks has a long career in diplomacy. Currently, he serves as Chargé d’Affaires of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Republic of Suriname. He previously held several positions within the Netherlands overseas Missions and served at the European Commission in Brussels as well as the Netherlands Permanent Representative at the United Nations. Further, he worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at The Hague. Most recently, H.E. Frederiks served as Chargé d’Affaires of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Ukraine. He will reside in Suriname.

Guyana and the Netherlands established diplomatic relations on May 15, 1970. The Netherlands has provided technical assistance to Guyana in several instances including the 2005 flooding, during which Dutch expertise on dams aided in the development of a task force that made relevant recommendations to the Government.
