Construction of a nursery school for 80 pupils at Calcutta Mahaicony in Region Five is on schedule for completion by early December.

The school, which is being built at a cost of $30M, will house several facilities including a waiting room for visitors, a kitchenette, bathroom facilities for children, facilities for disabled children, a large storeroom and separate offices for the Head Mistress and staff.

Regional Engineer for Mahaica-Berbice, Dhanpaul Sukha said that the waiting room was a new feature which had been requested so that transactions could be conducted without having to navigate through the classrooms and disrupt classes in progress.

Sukha disclosed that nursery-aged children in the Calcutta area have been accommodated in a section of the Calcutta Primary School for several years. The new nursery school is some distance away from the primary school but is housed in the same compound.
