Canadian High Commissioner pays final courtesy call on Foreign Minister

Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Hugh Todd, today lauded outgoing High Commissioner of Canada to the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, Her Excellency Lilian Chatterjee, during a final courtesy call. The Foreign Minister extended best wishes to High Commissioner Chatterjee and thanked her for her efforts to further enhance diplomatic relations between Guyana and Canada.

The establishment of formal diplomatic relations between Guyana and Canada predated Guyana’s independence with the opening of the High Commission of Canada in Georgetown, in March 1964. These relations were fully formalized on the occasion of Guyana’s independence.
