Capacity building continues for Gov’t employees

GINA, GUYANA, Thursday, May 4, 2017

Minister of State, Joseph Harmon announced today, that Cabinet has granted approval for Parliamentary Counsel Ariel Haynes to attend the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus second oil and gas conference.

During the post-Cabinet media briefing, at the Ministry of Presidency, the Minister explained that the conference will address the legal challenges in the energy sector, and assist in targeting oil companies, and associate businesses along with government stakeholders, legal experts and academics.

The conference will be held in Trinidad and Tobago from June 8 to 9 and sponsored by the Improved Access to Justice in the Caribbean (IMPACT) project.

Cabinet also granted approval for senior parliamentary counsel Joann Bond to attend the Technical Advisory Group Meeting for Legislation and Drafting. This meeting will be held in Castries, St. Lucia on May 11, 2017.

Minister Harmon explained that the meeting aims to focus on the legislative agendas of governments, and how the project can assist in the areas of legislation and treaty drafting. The State Minister noted that the meeting also provides a forum for the participants to discuss IMPACT’s activities for the next year.

The meeting will be held in Castries, St. Lucia on May 11, 2017, and is also sponsored by IMPACT.

IMPACT is a five-year regional justice sector reform project funded by the Government of Canada. The project has its ultimate outcome to provide enhanced access to justice that benefits men, women, youth and businesses in 13 CARICOM Member States; Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, The Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.

Additionally, Cabinet granted approval for Ministry of Finance’s, Economic and Financial Analyst, Dominique Ambrose-Charles to attend the XIII meeting of the Budgeting for Results Network-Senior Budget Network for Latin America and the Caribbean (SOB-LAC). This meeting will be held in Buenos Aries, Argentina from May 3-5, 2017.

The Minister said that the meeting will focus on the performance of budgets, the improvement of budgeting, quality public spending, as well as budgeting adjustments based on performance information.

The meeting is organised by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
