CDC host mass causality management training workshop

The Civil Defence Commission (CDC), today commenced a six-day Mass Causality Management Training Workshop. The training will prepare participants to deal with situations if a disaster should occur.

Agencies involved in the workshop include, staff of the Ministry of Public Health, Guyana Fire Service, St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Davis Memorial Hospital, Civil Defence Commission, Eugene F. Correia International Airport, Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Defence Force. It is being held at the CDC’s headquarters, Thomas Lands, Georgetown.
Director General, CDC, Colonel (Ret’d) Chabilall Ramsarup, in his opening address, noted that the ability to manage large numbers of causalities when there is a disaster is very important. “If we have a good organisation in mass causality, then we can save a number of lives, we can save limbs” he stated.

Ramsarup urged the participants to pay keen attention to what they would be taught over the six days. “I hope everybody here pays interest so that when we have any mass causality incident in this country, we can easily manage it. It is a system geared to save life, to save limbs and to ensure that the injured (are) treated properly.” he said.
The workshop was made possible through collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health and Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO).
Upon successful completion of the training, participants would be issued with an internationally recognized certificate.
