CDC refutes claims of “massive” flooding in Matthew’s Ridge

DPI, Guyana, Sunday, October 21, 2018

The Civil Defence Commission (CDC) is refuting reports of “massive” flooding in the community of Matthew’s Ridge, Barima -Waini (Region One).

According to the CDC, an initial report indicated that there was some flash flooding as a result of high-water level in a creek. The water was about 1-2 feet high and approximately 10 houses located in a flat area were affected.

The water has since receded and the affected persons are cleaning up. There have been no reports of losses or major damages.

This information was also confirmed to the Department of Public Information (DPI) by CDC Chairman in the region, Terrence Ash, who noted that few persons are minimally affected when the creek overflows.

He said visits were made to the affected homes and everything is back normal at present.

CDC is in contact with the community and monitoring the situation.
