Central govt and City Council to strengthen relations

Prime Minister, Moses Nagamootoo and Mayor of Georgetown, Ubraj Narine met earlier today, at the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), where they discussed strengthening the collaboration between the central government and the Mayor and City Council (M&CC).

Prime Minister Nagamootoo congratulated the Mayor on his strides to rid the city of the garbage that plagued Georgetown for many years.

Mayor Narine briefed the Prime Minister on some of the issues the City Council is facing with pavement vending and garbage collection. He informed that the M&CC would be collaborating with the Ministry of Public Security and the Guyana Police Force (GPF) to assist the city police in making the streets safer.

The Prime Minister assured the Mayor of central government’s support and committed to having the identified issues with the relevant authorities.

Mayor Narine has been meeting with several Government Ministers and members of the Diplomatic Corps to strengthen working relationships.
