Centre for Disease Control and Prevention to get maternity section

Plans are being drawn up for a maternity section to manage Covid-positive pregnant women at the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention at Liliendaal.

Minister of Health, Hon. Dr. Frank Anthony, made the disclosure during Thursday’s COVID-19 update.

“We’re looking at opening up another section of the Ocean View Facility, so that in the future we can move in maternity cases. As it is right now, we don’t have that capability at Ocean View, but we are working to put that in place. We, also, would have to build up the laboratory and diagnostic capacity of Ocean View, so, that has been an ongoing effort.”

A maternity section at the Liliendaal Hospital will complement the COVID-19 Maternity Unit already established at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).

Minister Anthony gave the assurance that ongoing works at the Liliendaal hospital would not impede the management of patients currently in ICU care.

“So far, everything is going smoothly, most of the patients with COVID-19 have already been transferred, we have been able to put in all the requisite things; medical gas, put in all the ICU beds, monitors, ventilators and so forth.”

There are currently 14 patients at the ICU facility which became fully operational last Friday.
