“Choose wisely who will lead this great nation”- Min Rajkumar urges Guyanese

DPI, Guyana, Sunday, August 11, 2019

Minister of Business, Hon. Haimraj Rajkumar encouraged residents of the Cummings Lodge community to vote wisely about whom they wish to lead this nation to new heights.

“This government have demonstrated that they are trustworthy… In these four years, there is no accusation of corruption among us… Would you want to make a mistake of giving control of revenues from the oil industry to a person that you do not trust?” he questioned during a community meeting held at Cummings Lodge Secondary School, on Sunday evening.

The minister stressed that the Coalition government is a caring one . It has demonstrated through its mission to provide equal opportunities and service to all despite their location, race or religion, he added.

According to Minister Rajkumar, the Coalition Government does not “see race nor party affiliation” when providing such services aimed to develop communities and empower residents.

Issues such as the state of the roads, installation of speed humps, the establishment of a playground, proper drainage and irrigation systems among others were highlighted.

Minister within the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Hon. Jaipaul Sharma informed the residents that they will continue to see infrastructural developments via a loan of over $5Trillion [US$27Billion] from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

“I could say that Cummings Lodge is the beneficiary of the reformulation of that IDB loan,” he explained.

Minister Sharma highlighted that the government is projected to establish 4,000 house lots, of which, Cummings Lodge is set to benefit from 370 house lots.

He added that Regions 1,10, 9, 5 and 6 will benefit from this initiative. Minister Sharma also promised residents to return to the community with the relevant personnel to address the concerns raised.

Barbara Boyce, a resident of ‘E’ Field Sophia for 26 years, recalled that under the previous administration, surveys were done to measure the scope of works to have the roads upgraded but nothing was done. Following the assurance by Minister Sharma, the resident said she is indeed happy that roads will finally be rehabilitated.

His Worship the Mayor of Georgetown, Pandit Ubraj Narine, was also a part of the team during the community walkabout. He said residents informed him about where his council needs to step up its efforts in the community’s development. This, he said, will be dealt with to ensure the promise of the ‘good life’ is provided to the people of Cummings Lodge.
