Citizens welcome Waterloo Street rehabilitation

Waterloo Street, Georgetown is under rehabilitation to facilitate improved access for commuters, vehicles and school children, as the Ministry of Public Infrastructure continues to rehabilitate roads across the country.

Works Clerk at the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Shemroy Skeffers told the Government Information Agency (GINA) that the street had deteriorated over time, resulting in pot holes and cracks, making it difficult to traverse.
Skeffers explained that the rehabilitation was long needed, “and is very important for commuters and vehicles, and especially the St. John’s school children so access to the school and so forth can be easier.”
The scope of works being undertaken includes resurfacing of the worn road. “The road has been existing a while now, so we (are) basically recapping it back with two inches thick asphaltic concrete between Lamaha to Church Street,” Skeffers explained.

Michael, a pedestrian, told GINA that it “is nice to see that the Ministry is doing a good job getting the road done and that the road users would appreciate that.” Michael said he embraces the road rehabilitation since he uses the road frequently and he hopes the Ministry continues to have other roads rehabilitated.
Marcus who drives his car regularly on that street said that the government has done a wonderful thing. The man said, being on the rehabilitated road ‘feels good’.
Contractors working on the second half of Waterloo Street, Georgetown
One half of the road is already completed and the contractors are currently working on the other half. Overall works are expected to be completed by Saturday and are being funded under the Ministry of Public Infrastructure’s 2016 budget.
