CJIA tests New Arrival Terminal

As steps to ensure all systems regarding passenger treatment and loading conditions at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) are satisfactory, the airport’s management is conducting trial runs of the new Arrival Terminal and Boarding Bridges. Tests were conducted today and will continue tomorrow.
Deputy Chief Executive Officer of CJIA, Andre Kellman stated that the purpose of the exercise is to “fine-tune areas” which could be “deemed problematic.”
Kellman explained that tests are being conducted on “the entire operational process including the Immigration and the Customs sections to determine how effective is the equipment and method of the operation.”
He is optimistic the trial runs will identify “where the flaws are so that the can be resolved quickly.”
The Department of Public Information (DPI) spoke with a few passengers who stated that they were impressed with the new facilities.
Ryan Mohammed, a frequent traveller stated that the new Arrival Terminal is “a very modern development,” and that he sees it “as a positive sign” of the future of infrastructural development in Guyana.
Diane Adonis could not contain her amazement at the newly constructed terminal and shared that she is “very proud of what’s happening.”
The test today was conducted with approximately 286 passengers who arrived on a Fly Jamaica aircraft and were processed within two hours. The passengers utilised the new immigration and customs booths and the baggage carousel.
The Arrival Terminal is expected to officially begin operation on September 15, however, that date remains tentative.
