The Claims and Objections Period commenced on October 1, last and addressed issues relating to new registrations, transfers, changes of address, and retaking of photographs, among others.

In the meantime, the elections body continues its verification process, inviting persons who have not yet uplifted their National Identification (ID) cards from 2008, to do so.

The first list of names of more than 19,000 persons, was published on Saturday, November 9 in the daily newspapers.

At her press conference on Friday, GECOM Chair, (retd) Justice Claudette Singh had reminded that verification exercise, is fully accounted for in the law and is in no way seeking to disenfranchise anyone.

Last week, Chief Elections Officer (CEO), Keith Lowenfield reported that the commission had received the paraphernalia required for the conduct of polls. These include ink, seals, and ballot boxes. The technical requirements for polling are also on location.

The training regimen for polling day staff has already been completed. More than 13,500 persons have been trained, and there is a refresher training course to be conducted at a later date.
