The D-License course is a useful qualification for the coaches to have, as it focuses on technical, tactical and social aspects of coaching.  The four-day programme being held at Guyana Olympic Association headquarters at Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara, has seen the participation of over 12 coaches.

Technical Director of the Guyana Football Federation, Ian Greenwood advised the participants to be open-minded during the training sessions and take advantage of the knowledge being imparted by the instructors.

“In the CONCACAF region, especially in Guyana, we have to improve the quality (of play) on the pitch and that is really you guys. So, the work that you are going to put into the next few days and months will help develop the future of Guyana,” Greenwood said.

Anton Corneal, Trinidad & Tobago, CONCACAF instructor noted the benefits of the course. “The future lies with you (participants) …the magic lies with you and the young ones you touch; those that you will mold for the next eight to 10 years. This is what is going to change the level of the players.”

Corneal observed that as several Caribbean territories are attempting to “form their niche” within the region his organization is hopeful that other countries will follow Guyana’ who has been leading by words and action. He also noted that use of local (regional) instructors is more beneficial as it serves to empower “our own.”

Approximately 50 to 60 participants have undergone similar training since the commencement of the CONCACAF D-License training programme, last year.

President of the GFF, Wayne Forde expressed the view that the participants are taking their first step towards a career that will deliver tremendous value in years to come. He also pledged that his organisation will continue to have a focused and disciplined approach to the sport of Football and in particular the development of its players.
