The first ever Guyana Coconut Festival will be held on the grounds of the Arthur Chung Convention Center (ACCC), Liliendaal, ECD from October 21-23.  The Planning Committee has already paid repeated visits to the Essequibo Coast and will call on farmers in the Essequibo Islands, Linden, the East Coast, West and East Berbice over the coming weeks.

On September 1, the Committee will meet and speak with students and staff from all faculties of the University of Guyana.  They will deliver a power-point-aided presentation titled: “UG, the Coconut Festival and Thereafter” in Room A 104, Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry on the Turkeyen campus.  Guyanese producers of coconut foods, household products, decorative products and cosmetologists will put samplings of their produce on exhibition on campus.

The Coconut Festival is a collaboration between the Ministry of Business – Department of Tourism – and the Ministry of Agriculture, with support from the ITC and CARDI.  It is intended to re-educate Guyanese people about the diverse benefits of this super-fruit including the health and cosmetic benefits, the nutritional value, the decorative value of the shell, tree trunk, branches and fronds, as well as the numerous ways for up-cycle and down-cycle manufacturing.
