Community development in Reg. 5 set in motion

DPI, Guyana, Saturday, April 27, 2019

Uden Semple has spent over 50 years in Number 40 Village (Seafield Forty), West Coast of Berbice.

Numbered among the oldest residents, he is now eagerly looking forward to improvements in his community, following the recent ministerial outreach held in the compound of the Region 5 Regional Democratic Council (RDC) building.

Semple was among the many residents who received assurance of the implementation of the much-needed improvement to the roads and infrastructure from Minister of Public Infrastructure, David Patterson.

Uden Semple, a resident of Region 5, Mahaica-Berbice.

“I came to this outreach to speak on the issues and concerns in my community, so they can be put to Cabinet as promised by the Coalition Government… I spoke about the condition of the roads and the minister has assured us that it will be dealt with.”

Another resident, Johnny Marks also raised with minister the deplorable condition of the roads.

“I am living on the second street of a village called Ross and the street in this particular community is extremely bad when it rains no one cannot leave their home due to this even in their respective vehicles.”

Learning that several ministers would be at the outreach to personally meet the residents, Marks made sure that he was there to speak on the challenges that residents face.

He noted that road works have commenced, but his street is one of the few that is still to be repaired.

“There are roads that they [Coalition Government] are doing within my community… It is clearly understood that they cannot do everything in one go but I am a bit frustrated waiting to see these works which I live,” he explained.

Marks noted that with the response from the relevant stakeholders, he hopes to see these works conducted.

The government outreach hosted in the region saw ministers and officials from 20 government ministries and agencies assisting residents. This was the third such outreach which followed closely on the heels of a similar event hosted at the University of Guyana, Tain Campus in Region 6 on April 16.

The next ‘Government comes to you’ outreach is slated for April 28 at the Leonora Track and Field Centre in Region 3.
