DPI, Guyana, Sunday, September 8, 2019

Construction of the Linden Synthetic Track, located at the Bayroc Community Centre, Wismar Linden, is progressing according to schedule. The project is currently in the third phase.

The synthetic track is being constructed by Builders Hardware and General Supplies, for $179M. This phase of the project includes groundwork, laying of necessary drainage pipes, curb work, asphalting and concreting where necessary. Workers are currently executing drainage works and laying of aggregates such as gravel and loam amongst others, which will serve as the foundation on which the synthetic material is to be laid.

The actual laying of the synthetic track will be done by an overseas firm and this is expected to commence at the end of September.

Ongoing construction work on the Linden Synthetic Track

While the synthetic material has not yet been laid, the site is already transformed and Lindeners, especially athletes, have expressed excitement about the project and the positive impact it will have on sports development in Region 10.

In April, following a visit to the site, Minister of Social Cohesion with responsibility for Culture, Youth and Sports, Hon. Dr. George Norton had expressed satisfaction with the ongoing works. He was also impressed with the transformation of the Bayroc Community Centre Ground as well as the quality of work being carried out by the contractors.

Minister Norton said that Region 10 has always positively contributed to sporting development in Guyana and the athletes have always represented Guyana well at international competitions.

The track will also have the necessary amenities for all field events and the centre of the facility will be developed into a world-class football field.  The development of the pavilion and the additional surrounding space is a project that will be scheduled for a later time.
