Corentyne Comprehensive graduates encouraged to pursue higher academic goals

Graduates of the Corentyne Comprehensive High School were on Thursday charged to become “learned and responsible” citizens of Guyana.
Delivering the charge at the institution’s 19th annual graduation and prize giving exercise was Mrs. Sita Nagamootoo, wife of Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo, who also urged the graduates to “grow with integrity.”
Quoting President David Granger, Mrs. Nagamootoo reminded the students that “the values of education are concerned with producing persons of quality.”
“Education must edify the mind, enhance the skills and emancipate the mind from arrogance from anger from hatred. Education can achieve these ends only if it embraces certain values. Education installs respect for others, respect for authority and respect for everyone around us,” she quoted.
The graduating students were also advised to pursue a higher education and to take advantage of Guyana’s developing economy since the time is now for them to take up the mantle of leadership.
“You, graduates, must prepare yourselves to be our new technicians. Graduates can be environmentalist, agronomist, project planners and other technicians.”
Mrs. Nagamootoo also presented a laptop from the Office of the Prime Minister and a Shield of Excellence on behalf of the Ministry of the Presidency to the school’s valedictorian, Tanya Semple.
